The Flag Level teams are designated for players in grades K – 2nd for that football season. There is no overall weight limit that precludes any player in this age bracket from playing with others in the same grades. The Flag Program, although competitive and travel, is also designed to teach the players the fundamentals of football and serve as an introduction to the sport. Contact is limited in flag but to ensure safety, all flag players are required to wear a protective head gear, chest protector, and a mouth piece at all times.
At this level the coaches are on the field with the players at all times, including the games. Games consist of 9 V 9 players in two 35-minute halves played with a running clock. It is the responsibility of each program to provide referees for the game either in the form of a league referee or a parent volunteer. Players are not designated to any particular side of the ball. The offensive team has 4 plays to get from the 40 to 20, 4 more plays to get into the end zone. After scoring/turning the ball over on downs, the ball is reset to the 40-yard line. There are no extra points, no kicking and the scores are not posted by the league as the focus of flag is to teach the fundamentals of the game and develop sportsmanlike behavior.
Travel flag is a great opportunity to introduce your child to the game of football. Many of our older grade level players began within our travel program and have continued to play together throughout their time in the program. These players and families have developed long lasting friendships through this travel flag program.
